Boston Blocks and half squares

Change the colors and get a new look and/or try using a differant block in the same layout.
In the second pink and green quilt block above- Boston Blocks have been substituted in place of some of the half square blocks in the first quilt block.

More Quilt Blocks using half squares and simple squares
There are no layouts for these quilt blocks but if you can see the "blocks"in the quilt block above you should be able to see the half square blocks and simple squares and how they are placed.
You can experiment with color and turning the blocks in differant ways. If you don't have a quilt software program just make some blocks and lay them out and see what they look like if you turn them one way or another. The possibilities are endless. Change the type of block you are using and see what you get. Have fun!

Size of template for a project
I use a scant 1/4" seam allowance. If you use a full or larger 1/4" seam allowance then you might want to use the next size up template.
1 1/4" template -- Checkbook Cover or Eyeglass Case or Coin Purse
1 1/2" template -- 8 1/2" hot pad ( 6 1/2" unfinished top plus border)
2 1/2" template -- 8 1/2" unfinished quilt block
3" template -- 10 1/2" unfinished quilt block
